A Dad's story...

A DAD'S STORY

On July 22nd I was in route to Washington , DC for a business trip. It was all so very ordinary, until we landed in Denver for a plane change. As I collected my belongings from the overhead bin, an announce ment was made for Mr. Lloyd Glenn to see the United Customer Service Representative immediately. I thought nothing of it until I reached the door to leave the plane and I heard a gentleman asking every male if he were Mr. Glenn. At this point I knew something was wrong and my heart sunk.

When I got off the plane a solemn-faced young man came toward me and said, 'Mr. Glenn, there is an emergency at your home. I do not know what the emergency is, or who is involved, but I will take you to the phone so you can call the hospital.'

My heart was now pounding, but the will to be calm took over. Woodenly, I followed this stranger to the distant telephone where I called the number he gave me for the Mission Hospital . My call was put through to the trauma center where I learned that my three-year-old son had been trapped underneath the automatic garage door for several minutes, and that when my wife had found him he was dead. CPR had been performed by a neighbor, who is a doctor, and the paramedics had continued the treatment as Brian was transported to the hospital.

By the time of my call, Brian was revived and they believed he would live, but they did not know how much damage had been done to his brain, nor to his heart. They explained that the door had completely closed on his little sternum right over his heart. He had been severely crushed. After speaking with the medical staff, my wife sounded worried but not hysterical, and I took comfort in her calmness.

The return flight seemed to last forever, but finally I arrived at the hospital six hours after the garage door had come down. When I walked into the intensive care unit, nothing could have prepared me to see my little son laying so still on a great big bed with tubes and monitors everywhere. He was on a respirator. I glanced at my wife who stood and tried to give me a reassuring smile. It all seemed like a terrible dream. I was filled-in with the details and given a guarded prognosis. Brian was going to live, and the preliminary tests indicated that his heart was OK, two miracles in and of themselves. But only time would tell if his brain received any damage.

Throughout the seemingly endless hours, my wife was calm. She felt that Brian would eventually be all right. I hung on to her words and faith like a lifeline. All that night and the next day Brian remained unconscious. It seemed like forever since I had left for my business trip the day before.

Finally at two o'clock that afternoon, our son regained consciousness and sat up uttering the most beautiful words I have ever heard spoken. He said, 'Daddy hold me' and he reached for me with his little arms.

[TEAR BREAK...smile]

By the next day he was pronounced as having no neurological or physical deficits, and the story of his miraculous survival spread throughout the hospital. You cannot imagine, we took Brian home, we felt a unique reverence for the life and love of our Heavenly Father that comes to those who brush death so closely.

In the days that followed there was a special spirit about our home. Our two older children were much closer to their little brother. My wife and I were much closer to each other, and all of us were very close as a whole family Life took on a less stressful pace. Perspective seemed to be more focused, and balance much easier to gain and maintain. We felt deeply blessed. Our gratitude was truly profound.

The story is not over (smile)!

Almost a month later to the day of the accident, Brian awoke from his afternoon nap and said, 'Sit down Mommy.. I have something to tell you.' At this time in his life, Brian usually spoke in small phrases, so to say a large sentence surprised my wife. She sat down with him on his bed, and he began his sacred and remarkable story.

'Do you remember when I got stuck under the garage door? Well, it was so heavy and it hurt really bad. I called to you, but you couldn't hear me.. I started to cry, but then it hurt too bad. And then the 'birdies' came.'

'The birdies?' my wife asked puzzled.

'Yes,' he replied. 'The birdies made a whooshing sound and flew into the garage. They took care of me.'

'They did?'

'Yes,' he said. 'One of the birdies came and got you. She came to tell you 'I got stuck under the door.' A sweet reverent feeling filled the room. The spirit was so strong and yet lighter than air. My wife realized that a three-year-old had no concept of death and spirits, so he was referring to the beings who came to him from beyond as 'birdies' because they were up in the air like birds that fly.. 'What did the birdies look like?' she asked.

Brian answered, 'They were so beautiful. They were dressed in white, all white. Some of them had green and white. But some of them had on just white.'

'Did they say anything?'

'Yes,' he answered. 'They told me the baby would be all right.'

'The baby?' my wife asked confused.

Brian answered. 'The baby laying on the garage floor.' He went on, 'You came out and opened the garage door and ran to the baby. You told the baby to stay and not leave.'

My wife nearly collapsed upon hearing this, for she had indeed gone and knelt beside Brian's body and seeing his crushed chest whispered, 'Don't leave us Brian, pl ease stay if you can.' As she listened to Brian telling her the words she had spoken, she realized that the spirit had left His body and was looking down from above on this little lifeless form.. 'Then what happened?' she asked.

'We went on a trip,' he said, 'far, far away.' He grew agitated trying to say the things he didn't seem to have the words for. My wife tried to calm and comfort him, and let him know it would be okay. He struggled with wanting to tell something that obviously was very important to him, but finding the words was difficult.

'We flew so fast up in the air. They're so pretty Mommy,' he added.

'And there are lots and lots of birdies.' My wife was stunned. Into her mind the sweet comforting spirit enveloped her more soundly, but with an urgency she had never before known. Brian went on to tell her that the 'birdies' had told him that he had to come back and tell everyone about the 'birdies.' He said they brought him back to the house and that a big fire truck, and an ambulance were there. A man was bringing the baby out on a white bed and he tried to tell the man that the baby would be okay. The story went on for an hour.

He taught us that 'birdies' were always with us, but we don't see them because we look with our eyes and we don't hear them because we listen with our ears. But they are always there, you can only see them in here (he put his hand over his heart). They whisper the things to help us to do what is right because they love us so much. Brian continued, stating, 'I have a plan, Mommy. You have a plan.. Daddy has a plan. Everyone has a plan. We must all live our plan and keep our promises. The birdies help us to do that cause they love us so much.'

In the weeks that followed, he often came to us and told all, or part of it, again and again. Always the story remained the same. The details were never changed or out of order. A few times he added further bits of information and clarified the message he had already delivered. It never ceased to amaze us how he could tell such detail and speak beyond his ability when he talked about his birdies.

Everywhere he went, he told strangers about the 'birdies.' Surprisingly, no one ever looked at him strangely when he did this. Rather, they always got a softened look on their face and smiled. Needless to say, we have not been the same ever since that day, and I pray we never will be.

You have just been sent an Angel to watch over you. Some people come into our lives and quickly go...Some people become friends and stay a while...leaving beautiful footprints on our hearts .. and we are never quite the same because we have made a good friend!!

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present! Live and savor every moment...this is not a dress rehearsal! THIS IS A SPECIAL GUARDIAN ANGEL...

Life...

Sometimes you wonder why we go through so many crazy things in our lives and what is the purpose for them? Why do things happen to some families and not to others? Why do some people have to suffer depression and others don't? Why do some people have to suffer pain and illness while others don't? I try so hard not to let the why's get me someday's but sometimes the why's get me...why do teenagers act the way they do to parents? Oh it can just about drive you crazy....I have learned to just let it go and get busy with something but the tears still come and it hurts but after awhile you feel better and pick up where you left off and life goes on....hopefully someday I will know some of the why's of life cause right now they got me down...hugs, cheryl

Lyrics to the song playing...

Can't give up now!

There will be mountains
That I will have to climb
And there will be battles
That I will have to fight
But victory or defeat
It's up to me to decide
But how can I expect to win
If I never try

Chorus
I just can't give up now
I've come too far from where
I started from
Nobody told me
The road would be easy
And I don't believe He's brought me this far
To leave me

Never said there wouldn't be trials
Never said I wouldn't fall
Never said that everything would go
The way I want it to go
But when my back is against the wall
And I feel all hope is gone
I'll just lift my head up to the sky
And say help me to be strong, oh

Chorus

Oh, I know You didn't bring me
Out here to leave me lonely, oh no
Even when I can't see clearly
I know that You are with me so I can't

Enough!

I pray you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter
how gray the day may appear.
I pray you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I pray you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I pray you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life
may appear bigger.
I pray you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I pray you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I pray you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

I PRAY YOU ENOUGH, my FRIENDS & FAMILY !

Graduation Day....where did these years go?

Natalie it seems like only yesterday you were watching Barney on the TV and now today I am going to see you graduate High School..it all happened so quickly and went by in a blink of an eye! Love you, hugs, mom

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 1970'S......

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island .

You had either a 'bowl cut' or 'pixie', not to mention the 'Dorothy Hamill'.
People sometimes thought you were a boy.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days. YEAH! You owned a 'Slip-n-Slide', on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.

You owned 'Klick-Klacks' and smacked yourself in the face more than once !

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze.
The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the
Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture;
and you despised Nellie Oleson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!

PONG! ('video tennis' ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !

Your hairstyle was described as having 'wings' or 'feathers' and you kept it 'pretty'
with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
When you walked, the 'wings' flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna 'take off'

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them.

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.

It was a big event in your household each year when the 'Wizard of Oz' would come on TV.
Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: 'Who will I marry.
Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?'

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage,
or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

You thought Olivia Newton John's song 'Physical' was about aerobics. (?? its not??)

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart rainbow designs.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first 'real' perfume you ever owned.

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off.

I found the paint and am ready to start ...

I found a red, mustard yellow and an olive green color...it is going to look so neat in the kitchen...can't decide weather to paint the kitchen cabinets red or leave them black...going towards red..we have had some flooring for several years and I found it today and it is green color tiles..they are going to look so neat in the kitchen..I called my friend and her husband is going to come over this week and see what needs to be done to get the floor done...I am resting now so later I can get it started...only will do a little at a time...first project in 9 months...

Went to the meat market and the butcher was so kind...he told me if I ever needed to put some meat on a ticket until we got paid I could and I never have asked in all these years...today I asked if I could pay next week...he asked what I wanted and I asked for 5 pounds of ground meat...he asked if I wanted sirloin, ground round, chuck? I told him chuck was just fine and thanked him...he brought it to the checkout girl and told her no charge...he said don't worry about it and told me to have a Happy Memorial Day and it was on him~~~~ I just about cried..I didn't even want to ask and then he gave it to me...there are still a lot of nice people out there...hugs and prayers, cheryl

All Things Will Fall Into Place

When tears are shed and we question why
And it seems we find life hard to face,
Remember friend, with the help of God,
All things will fall into place

Life at times seems hard and cruel
And we can't seem to find God's grace,
Remember friend, with the help of God,
All things will fall into place.

There are times that are tough and sometimes rough
And we make mistakes in our haste,
remember friend, with the help of God,
All things will fall into place.

After stormy periods the sun will shine
And our sorrows will all be erased,
Remember friend, with the help of God,
All things will fall into place.

If we would just learn to let go and let God
And always make this the case,
Remember friend, with the help of God,
All things will fall into place.

To Mothers!

My eyes are always watching to see how you’re going to respond

If I want my dreams to come true, I must not oversleep.
Of all the things I wear, my expression is the most important.
The happiness of my life depends on the quality of my thoughts.

The heaviest thing I can carry is a grudge

One thing I can give and still keep…is my word.

I lie the loudest when I lie to myself.

If I lack the courage to start, I have already finished.
One thing I can’t recycle is wasted time.

I lie the loudest when I lie to myself.

If I lack the courage to start, I have already finished.
One thing I can’t recycle is wasted time.

My mind is like a parachute…it functions only when open.

My mind is like a parachute…it functions only when open.

Laughing is healing

The pursuit of happiness is the chase of a lifetime! It is never too late to become what I might have been.

Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs… since the payment is pure love.

Think of Mother as a Verb.
Thinking of the word mother not as a noun but as a verb (”to mother”) helps change your internal definitions so that you stop looking to a human female for perfect parenting and begin to identify your mother as anyone who offers you maternal care. You’re being mothered when anyone offers you one or more of the following gifts:

Acceptance. This is not the anxious adoration of a mother who pins her hopes for happiness on her child’s appearance or achievements. True mothering starts with unconditional love for another person, without demands or expectations.

Nourishment. Sustenance, comfort and care, whether physical or emotional, are components of real motherhood. Anyone who nurtures you, in body, mind or heart, is mothering you.

Instruction. Real mothers teach constantly, showing both by example and by explanation what their children must know in order to live well.

Empowerment. Real mothers are intent on working themselves out of a job; by building in those they mother the courage and confidence needed to become completely independent.

The perfect mother is available to all of us if we’re willing to let go of expectations that will never be filled, and to see what is being offered to us here and now. Though all mothers are limited, the force of motherhood is not. It surrounds us every day, in all sorts of guises, some predictable and ordinary, some startling and extraordinary.
If you allow yourself to embrace it, I guarantee you’ll find it waiting to embrace you. And that, to me, is the mother of all comforts.

Did you know that Bounce dryer sheets will do! hugs, cheryl

Did you know that Bounce dryer sheets will….
*Chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them.
*Will repel mice.
*Take the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.
*Repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.
*Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.
*Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.
*Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.
*To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.
*Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.
*Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.
*Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.
*To freshen the air in your car - Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.
*Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan.
*Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.
*Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the lose hairs.
*Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.
*Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.
*Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.
*Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.
*Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.
*Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.
*Wet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe lovebugs off easily with the wet Bounce.
